Meet Herman! This poor guy has been through SO much, and is the absolute sweetest guinea pig despite the hardships he has endured. He is an inspiration and has a very resilient spirit! He came from a home where he was being kept in deplorable conditions - he was absolutely filthy, with long overgrown toenails, sores on his feet and a dull coat. He also had a large lump on his side as well as a large abscess on his back. We took him to the vet right away, where he received two different surgeries to remove the lump and abscess. The lump was an infected gland due to the filth he was living in, and the abscess was caused by being bitten by one of the other guinea pigs. His incisions are huge and wrap around the side of his body/belly as well as his back - we joked that he looked like Herman Munster,  and the name stuck. We also treated his sore feet, gave him injections of vitamin C and he got a bath and a manicure/pedicure. He's been on 2 rounds of antibiotics. He is feeling MUCH better!! In 2 weeks, he will have his stitches removed and hopefully will be all set for adoption! He has been so agreeable with all the medicines he's had to take and all the poking and prodding. He's enjoying living in a clean cage and having the proper food available to him, and no other piggies bullying him. He loves being pet and held and will happily sit on your lap forever. He is a big piggie and loves to eat. His favorite veggies are carrots and fresh greens. We love Frankenstein and we know you will too! He deserves a home where he will be well cared for and loved. <3

All our guinea pigs see the vet for a wellness visit and nail trim prior to adoption.

Guinea pigs have wonderful personalities- they are gentle and we have yet to come across any who bite, and they keep a daytime schedule! They form close bonds with their people, similar to cats and dogs. Did you know they are able to recognize people based on scent, sound and sight?! These sweet animals make wonderful pets!

This website is updated daily.  If the animal you are interested in adopting is listed as "available for adoption", that means the animal is still in DPR's care.

*Please note - we do not do on-site meet and greets. Potential adopters can speak to the guinea pig's foster mom on the phone or do a meeting on Zoom or Facetime if desired to virtually meet the guinea pig. You can pick your guinea pig up "curb side". Guinea pigs can be returned with a full refund for up to one week. *

DPR guinea pigs receive a vet check up prior to adoption!

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charity. The adoption fee helps to offset our standard and non-standard vet bills.
